St. John's Takes Care of Xavier

The St. John's Red Storm dominated throughout on their way to an 82-72 win at Xavier on Tuesday night.

The Red Storm are now 4-1 in Big East play, the second straight season under Head Coach Rick Pitino they open with that mark in conference. They are also a superb 13-3 overall, with their only losses a pair of games in the Bahamas and last Tuesday to Big East rival Creighton on the road.

St. John's was led by R.J. Luis Jr. and Zuby Ejiofor, who each had 18 points. Luis Jr. shot 6-14 overall, plus a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line, and he nabbed 10 rebounds with an assist. Ejiofor shot 8-16 from the field, and grabbed 12 rebounds, with four blocks an assist.

This was the second time this season that Luis Jr. and Ejiofor each had double-doubles in the same game.

Three other St. John's players scored in double figures. Simeon Wilcher made up for his food at the end of Saturday's game by pouring in 15 points (7-15 FG, 1-5 three-pointers), three assists, and a rebound off the bench. Aaron Scott had 12 points (6-12 FG), eight rebounds, four steals, and an assist. Kadary Richmond also had 12 points (5-12 FG), six assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

St. John's had 20 offensive rebounds in this one, which they turned into 22 points. They entered the game leading the Big East with 14.5 offensive boards per game.
